Ski Resorts UK

Living in the UK, one fo the questions that I get asked all the time when on my snowboard holidays is “Are there any ski resorts in the UK?”, I often answer that question with… “If there were would I be here?”.

The UK winters are very short and we very rarely get snow and if we do it is generally a small amount compared to Europe, America and Canada. The snow that does fall ion the UK doesn’t last very long either because our temperatures vary rarely stay below freezing. This is why there are few ski resorts in the UK.

The ski resorts in the UK that do exist are very small in comparison to ski resorts in Europe, Canada and America but this is because the mountains in the UK are a lot smaller in altitude. These ski resorts are also located mainly in Northern England and Scotland.

One of the biggest and best ski resorts in the UK would have to be Glenshee Ski Centre because of its size. With 21 lifts and 36 runs varying from green to black. As long as there has been a reasonable snowfall, this resort could well be as good as some of those smaller resorts in Europe.

Even though there are ski resorts in the UK, the most popular places to ski and snowboard in the UK are dryslopes and indoor snowdomes. You can read our post on snowboarding dryslope if you would like more information.

We also have a post about learning to snowboard in the UK, so if you are a beginner check it out and get snowboarding.
